I'm wasting time in Cairns and what better to do there than scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef? I figure as long as I'm in the largest coral reef in the world I might as well experience a tiny section of it in detail. The day I arrived I booked a four day scuba diving tour which includes 11 dives (2 of which will be after dark) , with all catering included. The company was named Pro Dive.

We left for the great barrier reef two days later. The boat was large and comfortable and I even got my own private cabin, which was great for changing after each dive. The reality is that it was pretty crazy. The order of the day was - rise at 6:30 and dive , have breakfast , dive , have a scrumptous lunch , scuba , have cake , dive , have a huge dinner , dive , sleep. Life was reduced to that of a fish , just swimming and eating which was exactly what I was looking for}. I am now of the school of thought that sea sickness tablets are more valuable than birth control pills in the great scheme of things. Women have been breeding since the start of humanity but only recently have people been spending time on a bobbing, bouncing , motor driven machine in the great seas of the planet. In other words , thank the man upstairs I packed those tablets because the sea was very rough and those tablets were my only survival gear.

The scuba dives were great and the things I witnessed were pretty amazing. I witnessed everything from hawksbill turtles to lionfish and lots of beautiful coral and amazing fish just swimming all around you. Since the successful film 'Finding Nemo' the fish of the reef have been christened new monikers. When you return from a dive you saw Nemo as opposed to a Clownfish. Being underwater though is incredible , it's a totally different world undeer the surface and being neutrally buoyant is a great feeling. Now I can definately state that I feel confident under the water , equalizing my ears is simple so I think that I am able to start diving in other places in the world.

The instructors were really fun and entertaining as a bonus. We had briefings prior to each dive and after the dive we all filled in our log books with the details of the dives. Also , the experienced~food was the best I've had} so far in Australia. On the Menu was cous-cous and Sri Lankan food , and good bread and tropical fruit. It was definitely good value , that's for sure.

I assure you that if you don't try diving when you visit Cairns it's like going to Paris and not looking at the Eifel Tower, In other words, its a must see.
